Juventus will visit West Ham in a clash which is regarded as the Olympic Stadium’s official opening game, although West Ham have already played at their new stadium during their Europa League win over NK Domzale.
Taking on Juventus will be a daunting task for West Ham, as the Italian side will have new signingGonzalo Higuain available, as well as many of their Italian national team stars after their Euro 2016 exploits.
And writing in his book, Buffon revealed that the Hammers were one the teams he would have loved to have played for.
“West Ham: Because of the supporters: I knew the West Ham supporters during my time as a supporter,” Buffon wrote when discussing some of his favourite teams.
“Those guys follow the Hammers with an extraordinary energy. And because of the logo: Two crossed hammers. Almost communist, if I think about it.”
West Ham have sold 52,000 season tickets, so Buffon will no doubt be looking forward to seeing the famous West Ham support at it’s loudest and most raucous for the opening game of the Olympic Stadium.
